We had just stepped out of the bunker and taken a few steps into the forest when we realized the giant mistake that we had made. Behind us lighting up the night sky was a brilliant flaming orange inferno of what used to be Daniel’s house. Everything that he had ever known was up in flames and it was all I could do to keep him from dropping everything and running towards his now fully engulfed house. But, worse than the fact that the house was on fire was the fact that we were completely and utterly surrounded by large muscular men.
We could try to make a run for it, but there were so many of them that I doubted we could get more than a few steps before they would be upon us. It was time to face facts, we were surrounded and there was no way we were getting out of here alive.

Exciting right from the beginning! Makes you wonder how many of us would really be prepared if war happened in our backyard instead of overseas. I expected the author to be older because of the maturity in which she handles basic instinctual survival. I'm looking forward to the next book but I hope it is longer as I am captivated by the characters and want to see how they fair.Product details

Taking place two years after the Gambouchi Virus hit the US there are very few survivors. Millions died as a result of it and the government fell within 2 weeks.
Amy and her brother, John, are among the survivors and have taken shelter in their grandfather's cabin in the woods. Unfortunately, John is injured and needs antibiotics for survival.
This is the short story of Amy's trek to find medicine and what happens when she reaches the nearest town. There are some "skins" that appear at the end which are menacing, to say the least.
Off to a good start in this one. Let us see what happens in the next part.
Highly recommended. Well done to the author for her first book...
I fell in love with the characters right away. The concept is very interesting and quick paced. I do wish it was a little longer as I was really into the story and can hardly wait for the next in the series to be released. Engaging and easy to read!
